The Meta pixel fires in the browser. That means ad blockers kill it, iOS privacy settings limit it, and any network interruption between page load and tag firing creates a gap. For most Shopify and lead gen sites, somewhere between 20-40% of real conversions never get reported back to Meta.

The algorithm doesn't know those conversions happened. So it optimizes on what it can see, which is a fraction of reality. CPMs creep up, ROAS slides, and the client starts questioning the channel.

Meta CAPI via Stape Gateway

Stape's Meta Conversions API Gateway is the fastest way to get server-side events flowing to Meta without a full GTM build on the server. We provision the gateway, connect it to the client's Meta pixel, and configure it to send the events Meta requires: purchases, leads, add-to-carts, checkout initiations, page views, and any custom events relevant to the account.

Pixel and CAPI Deduplication

Running both the browser pixel and CAPI simultaneously is the right approach, but it introduces duplication risk. If both fire for the same event, Meta sees it twice and over-reports conversions. We configure deduplication using event IDs so Meta correctly identifies and collapses duplicate signals. You get the redundancy of both channels without inflated numbers.

Event Match Quality

Meta uses Event Match Quality scores to measure how well your conversion events match real Meta users. Higher match quality means better attribution, better audience targeting, and better algorithm performance. We configure CAPI to pass as many customer data parameters as possible: email, phone, name, location, and browser signals, all of which are hashed before they leave the server. Better match quality directly improves how the algorithm uses the data you're sending.

First-Party Data and Advanced Matching

Beyond standard conversion events, we configure advanced matching to pass first-party customer data back to Meta in a privacy-safe way. For e-commerce clients, this includes purchase value, product IDs, and customer identifiers that let Meta build stronger lookalike audiences and attribution models. For lead gen clients, it includes lead-quality signals that help Meta optimize for higher-value prospects rather than just volume.

Test Events and Verification

Before anything goes live, we verify every event in Meta's Events Manager using the test events tool. You can see exactly which events are firing, what data they're carrying, and whether deduplication is working correctly. Nothing gets pushed to a live campaign until the data looks right.

What changes when CAPI is running correctly

Meta's algorithm receives more conversion signals, meaning it has more to work with when optimizing delivery. Audiences become more accurate. Attribution covers events that the pixel alone would miss. Reported ROAS gets closer to real ROAS because more of the actual conversions are counted.
