GA4 - Move a Property
This article explains how to move an Analytics property from one account to another, what is moved with the property, and important considerations and limitations.
About Moving Properties
If you need to restructure your properties within Analytics, you can move properties and their associated data streams from one account to another. A property is moved from the source account to the target (destination) account. Moving a property helps you keep your Analytics setup aligned with your business needs.
Property moves commonly occur:
After a merger or acquisition
During internal restructuring
When working with a new agency
When a property is moved:
Certain elements move with the property, such as the tag ID, property settings, data streams, reporting data, and property-level integrations.
Other elements remain in the source account, such as change history.
Note: To initiate a property move, you must have both Administrator and Editor roles on the source and destination accounts.
How to Move a Property
Use the following steps to move a property from a source account to a target account.
Step 1: In the Admin area of Analytics, under the Property column, select Property Details.
Step 2: Select Move a property.
Step 3: Choose the target account you want to move the property to.
Step 4: Select the permission settings for the moved property:
Maintain current property permissions: The current set of user permissions is copied with the property. The property does not inherit permissions from the destination account.
Replace the current property permissions with those of the destination account: The property adopts permissions from the destination account.
Step 5: Select Move.
Step 6: Verify the data processing details, then select Save to complete the move.
Points to Note
Original Account
If the original account no longer contains any properties after the move, you may delete the original account. However, an empty original account still counts toward the maximum number of Analytics accounts allowed.
Property Permissions
When moving a property, you have two options for managing permissions:
Substitute the current property permissions with those from the destination account: The property adopts permissions from the destination account.
Retain current property permissions: The existing property permissions are copied with the property. Users with account-level access in the source account retain property-level access in the destination account.
Data Streams
All data streams linked to a property are moved with it, and all data stream settings are preserved.
Tagging
The tagging ID (for example, G-123ABC) remains the same. You do not need to retag. The source account does not recycle the ID, ensuring its uniqueness across your Analytics environment.
Reporting Data
All reporting data linked to a property is moved to the destination account. The data is not duplicated.
Associated Accounts and Integrations
During the property move, all linked accounts (for example, Google Ads, AdSense) and integrations with platforms such as Firebase or BigQuery remain unaffected.
An Analytics property linked to an account with Google Ad Manager cannot be moved. You can contact your Google Marketing Platform support representative for help unlinking Ad Manager. After the move, you can relink Ad Manager.
If you must unlink your Analytics 360–Ad Manager integration to move a property, this will close all audiences previously published to those linked destinations. You cannot currently reopen these audiences from Analytics.
Billing
Billing applies only to Analytics 360 properties. As long as the property maintains its 360 status, billing continues without interruption.
Roll-Up Properties
To move a roll-up property:
First remove all of its source properties.
Before moving a source property, you must detach it from the roll-up property.

Subproperties
Before moving a source property, you must remove all of its subproperties. Subproperties cannot be moved independently because they depend entirely on their source property for all data.

Change History
When a property is moved, any change history associated with it before the move remains with the source account. Changes made after the move are recorded in the destination account.
When Property Relocation Is Not Possible
You cannot move a property under the following conditions:
The original (source) account and the target account belong to different Google Marketing Platform organizations.
The original account is not linked to a Google Marketing Platform organization while the target account is. In this case, contact an organization admin to link the original account to the same organization as the target account.
The property's service level is set to 360 and verification of the account link to the organization has not been completed. Contact an organization admin to:
Connect both the source and destination accounts to the same organization, or
Downgrade the property from 360 to the Standard level so that it can be moved.
You do not have both Administrator and Editor roles for the target account.
The property is associated with Google Ad Manager. You must contact your Google Marketing Platform support representative to detach the property. You can relink it after the move.
You are moving the property to a target account owned by a separate legal entity from the source account, and you have not signed a new linking contract. A new linking contract is required.
One or more unsampled reports associated with the property are still being processed. You must wait until these reports have finished processing before attempting the move again.
The destination account has reached the maximum number of properties (the default limit is 50).
